The Department's History and Organizational Advancements
The school formerly known as the "Taichung Healthcare and Management College," was established in 2001, and "Department of Applied Foreign Languages," recruited university and two-year college students for the day school. In 2004 due to the superior performance, the school was allowed for the comprehensive reform of becoming university and it was renamed "Asia University." To cope with the comprehensive universities guidelines of the higher education, and to cultivate students devoted to body, mind and spirit, school upgraded its academic units both professional and the training purposes. In 2006 the department has gradually changed its name to "the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature", and gradually has been re-adjusting its educational goals. Two-year technical college track was eliminated and in 2007 was officially named the "Department of Foreign Languages and Literature" and started recruiting students for Master's degree.

The Educational Goals
For the Undergraduate School
- Training students to be proficient in the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English.
- Training students to be well-nurtured in the sense of humanities and literatures.
- Training students to be professional in teaching English language.
- Training students to be excellent in the knowledge of literatures and of translation skills in English.
- Training students to be acquainted with the industrial information, competitive in the future career opportunities, and skillful in a related second foreign language.
For the Graduate School
- Training graduate students to be excellent English teachers in various positions, who are, particularly, well-cultivated in the deep understanding of literatures, in the application of the foreign languages, and in the teaching programs of the future careers.
- Training graduate students to be specialized in the cultural works, such as oral interpretation, written translation, editing, foreign affairs, and many others.
